When it became an instant best seller, it enabled her to plan an extraordinary appeal. It also promised funding for her mother to visit regularly, and for the essential medicines she was going to need to survive.
The Australian government, however, were determined to curtail her legal process as quickly as possible. In choosing the course to seize her funds, they would simultaneously undermine her current legal appeal, and curtail any future legal recourse.
